Maria Reis Habito began formal Zen practice in 1982 with Fr. Hugo Enomiya-Lassalle. She studied with Yamada Koun in 1987 and with Ruben Habito since 1990.
Yamada Ryoun appointed her Assistant Teacher in 2008 and Full Teacher in 2012. Maria is the International Program Director of the Museum of World Religions in Taipei and the personal translator of Dharma Master Hsin Tao for his writings and Zen courses held in Europe and Taiwan.
John Petersen started formal Zen practice with Ruben L.F. Habito in 2003 and studied with Maria Reis Habito beginning in 2012.
He was appointed Assistant Teacher in 2022 and full Teacher in 2023 in the Maria Kannon Lineage by both Ruben L.F. Habito and Maria Reis Habito.
