- John Petersen started formal Zen practice with Ruben L.F. Habito in 2003 and studied with Maria Reis Habito beginning in 2012. He was appointed Assistant Teacher in 2022 and full Teacher in 2023 in the Maria Kannon Lineage by both Ruben L.F. Habito and Maria Reis Habito.
